Stability of a 1950’s Museum Ship as Commercial Cruise Unit

About this Project

  • Date: 2019
  • Client: Confidential
  • Project Type: Reverse Engineering, Hull Calibration & Stability Calculation

Neo srl was asked to upgrade the vessel stability study of this vessel in order to meet the Rules for Commercial Cruise Vessel, under the provision of Dutch Flag.

As no digital information was available at the time of the project, it was necessary to rebuild the hull geometry by consolidated best practice in Neo: hull and subdivision were modeled and calibrated in CAD environment and the Stability Study carried out.

More Info

After the Second World War, the Dutch Navy needed many ships at the same time. But building ships takes a lot of time, which is why the CASTOR was designed in 1946 by the then Ministry of War as a multifunctional ship.

Castor was delivered in 1950 by the Gebroeders Pot shipyard in Bolnes, Rotterdam. The Royal Navy gave her the pennant A810, and the Pilotage gave her the name Castor, after the star that has been used for years in astronomical navigation at sea.

More info about the vessel through the years are available here.
